Indigenous News

I’ve busy working on a long news piece about everything happening to Indigenous peoples, instead of Writing an article for each one. This three part series of articles around the many issues that Indigenous peoples are currently fighting against. The reason decided to write three long articles about everything going on was to show that One: We have a lot going on as Indigenous people globally. Two: That Indigenous issues affect everyone and lastly: I’m going to highlight all the positive things happening in our communities.

Things that I wanted to cover in the this article but didn’t

Back home in Washington there was a 4.5 million gallon untreated sewage water spilled into the Salish Sea (Puget Sound) and closed many beaches. The spill came from the West Point Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Renton Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is in Renton, WA. The spill closed This is an example of something horrible that has happened to the land and water that affects my people people, my community directly. However when stories like this happen it’s not until days sometimes week later that we find out how our people were affected.

Issues like this that affect Indigenous communities go under reported, by mainstream media. And when it is covered it’s because Indigenous people have work hard to get the coverage or have reported on our issues ourselves.

I will be writing more about the topics that affect Indigenous peoples, from settler colonial violence to representation in the media.I will be taking the time to write about what’s important to my community.
